The Group

​

Findern Footpaths Group was formed as a working party of Findern Parish Council in 1998, initially with four members which included a Parish Councillor. We are no longer a working party of Findern Parish Council but a stand alone group. We are completely self funding, and finance our projects from grant funding or our own efforts.  Since those early days, we have grown to a Group of over a dozen members. We are a diverse group, we range in ages up to our oldest members who are in their seventies!  Some of us have disabilities.  Everyone is valued for the skills they bring to the Group.

 

The Group consists of people with expertise in horticulture, conservation, construction skills, photography, computer skills and others who bring only their enthusiasm and commitment. We all have a common love of the countryside and a commitment to protecting it!

 

We manage the 12km of rights of way in Findern.  These rights of way follow a wide variety of routes alongside streams, ponds and the Trent and Mersey Canal and through flower-rich meadows, historical sites and woodland. Some routes offer wide views over the surrounding countryside.  A programme of improvements has succeeded in making the routes more accessible to everyone particularly the less able and those with young children.

 

Additionally, on land leased by Findern Parish Council, the group has created diverse habitats to encourage wildlife, including the creation of woodland, managed scrubland, hedgerow, wetland, wildflower meadow and the restoration of two ponds

Meetings are held monthly.  We welcome new members so please come along, hear about the work of the group and offer your ideas and suggestions.
